A God Breathed Marriage
John 13:34 NIV – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
John 13:34 TPT – “So I give you now a new commandment: Love each other just as much as I have loved you.
John 15:12 NIV – My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
John 15:12 TPT – “So this is my command: Love each other deeply, as much as I have loved you.
This is not an option, in both verses Jesus says “I command”
I want to ask you a question – when you and your spouse were dating you were madly in love and couldn’t bear to be apart. You wanted to know everything there was to know about each other. This is how we are when we are “in love”. This is how we ought to love God. In that we want to spend time with Him, getting to know Him, His character, what He is like, what pleases Him etc. I think you know what I am trying to say.
When we love God first and seek Him first, then I feel we will love as He has commanded. Your marriage will then be a mirror image of what Christ’s love for His Church is. We will then love our spouse first with the infilling of Christ’s love, filled to overflow, enough for ourselves and enough for them. When our relationship is strong in the Lord we love from the overflow, not first trying to love our spouse, and then run to God because we don’t feel satisfied. Let’s love God the way He desires us to then we are able to freely love and give out of a full heart.
Remember, love is a choice, which then leads to us taking action.
Proverbs 20:23 TPT – When you live a life of abandoned love, surrendered before the awe of God, here’s what you’ll experience: Abundant life. Continual protection. And complete satisfaction!
