Day 4 • The Bible is our Road Map
Transcript:
Back when I started driving a car, Google Maps didn’t exist (which, by saying that, makes me feel very old). In those days, your map was a thick paperback book that had a directory to help you find the 10 pages the street you were looking for might be found on. You would then trace your finger along the book from where you currently were, to then work out how to get to where you wanted to go.
The worst was when you were going to a new subdivision, because the roads and houses physically existed but they weren’t in the map book yet. There was no such thing as an auto update.
Today we have technology which is very handy. We type in the address, tap ‘go’ and the Google Maps will locate you, let you know where you are going and the best way to get there.
The Word of God, the Bible, is our road map to life as Christians. It’s a collection of narratives, encouragement, poetry and more that reveals God’s character and how He sees us and works with us. The Bible has been faithfully and carefully been passed down from generations – it’s tested and true. Even better, it’s ‘the living Word of God’ because God speaks through it today to guide us. No auto updates needed!
Hebrews 4:12 puts it this way, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
God’s Word is the way to true freedom.
I have the privilege of being a parent. As a dad, I know more things than my kids do. They do not always see it this way, sometimes they still think they know more than me. My parents like to remind me that it’s just payback for how I was as a child.
God’s Word, which is God’s way, is best. Just like a loving father would not allow his kids to access things that could harm them, God’s Word helps us navigate through life with the correct boundaries put in place to care for us. God’s Word empowers us to live free and in alignment with how He’s designed your life to be lived.
