“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
Sabbath is an exercise in trusting that God is working even when we are not. It is an intentional act of surrender where we stop trying to provide for ourselves and instead recall that God is our true provider. By acknowledging Him, we invite His Spirit to take over, and lean fully into His embrace.
When we allow Him to direct us, our path may not become clear but we know that wherever we are going, it is leading us right to Him. And in Him is rest. Eternal rest but also the daily inner rest of knowing that in all things, in all circumstances, God is working on our behalf, for our good. He knows the plans He has for us. Sabbath is the intentional acknowledgement of, and surrender to, His good and perfect will.
Ponder:
What is God calling you to trust Him with today?
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, You know the plans You have for me. They are plans to prosper me and not to harm me. Plans to give me a hope and a future. When everything feels too much, you are more than enough. You are always enough. Forgive me for all the times I try to take control of everything and lean on my own understanding. Today I surrender all my ways to You, Lord, and I acknowledge You as my God, the one who knows me inside and out, who hems me in behind and before. Thank You for loving me, leading me, and guiding me. Help me to rest in that today and remember that in You are my peace and rest. In Jesus’ Name I pray, amen.
